A young and energetic domain (De La Garrelière) situated in the southernmost part of Touraine, originally belonging to the famed Cardinal Richelieu with 60 hectares of many different vines, and cellars built in the mid 19th century. Revivified by Pierre Plouzeau, a merchant from Chinon who purchased it in the 70s and began a process of targeted replanting. Now under his son François, the domain accounts for 18 hectares of Cabernet Franc, Gamay, Sauvignon Blanc and Chenin Blanc mainly with full Biodynamic conversion long completed.
The rich diversity of his soils is matched by his dedication to terroir + variety, and his inspired winemaking touch finds great expression both inside the bottle and outside with the use of idiosyncratic labels designed by local artists. Late harvests, low yields, judicious use of full malolactic fermentation & lees, along with an original 19th century screw press ensure wines of precision, poise, and irrefutable character.
