"One of Piemonte's superstars...Clerico has the privilege of working with some of the very finest vineyards in the world"
Robert M. Parker Jr. - The Wine Advocate

Domenico Clerico founded his now renowned winery in 1976, taking over a small 4ha farm in Montforte d'Alba where his father had dedicatedly grown grapes for the local cooperative. Domenico immediately set about increasing their total vineyard holdings -acquiring parcels in the Bussia Cru in 1977 (For Ciabot and Pajana), and in 1995 in the Mosconi Cru for Percristina.
The estate, now run in partnership by his widow, and his protégé Oscar Arrivabene, has grown to 21ha of vines across Montforte and Serralunga, but production remains small with only 110,000 bottles per year made.
In recent years there has been an increased drive towards the use of "botte grande" or large oak casks for ageing. Each wines is aged for approximately 16 months each in these and in smaller barriques. The result are Baroli that are deep and polished, but always authentic and eloquent expressions of Nebbiolo.

Often referred to as the "superstar of modern Barolo", the winery's philosophy can be appreciated at great value through the "Arte" bottling, an innovative, intuitive, and perfectly poised blend of the exuberant fruit and softness of Barbera with the elegance and structure of Nebbiolo.
