Jean-Luc is one of the foremost global champions of Syrah, and an illustrious figure in the Northern Rhône for bringing modern winemaking techniques to this most traditional of regions. Fusing a childhood of gastronomy with a professional training as a pharmacist, he purchased his first vines in Cornas in 1986, and established the Centre Oenologique des Côtes du Rhône in 1987, laying the foundations of both his domain and an influential consultancy like that of Michel Rolland in Bordeaux.
His philosophy, techniques and dedication to the unique yet previously neglected terroir of Cornas have been enthusiastically taken up by his daughter Laure. The winemaking remains "modern" in style - with full de-stemming, fermentation in stainless steel, and malolactic in new French oak - but the aim is the utmost purity of fruit as the best expression of vineyard specificity. Arguably, no one knows Cornas better than the Colombo family.
