"The Chiarlo family owns plots in some of the very best vineyards in both Barbaresco and Barolo"
Antonio Galloni - Vinous
A favourite of mine since my visit in 2014 and a fantastic stay in their "Palas Cerequio" resort in the heart of the vineyard. The estate was founded in earnest in 1956 by Michele, however the family has farming and winemaking origins in the region going back to the turn of the 20th century.
Today the estate owns 110 hectares of vineyards between Langhe, Monferrato and Gavi, with a particular focus on single parcel - "Cru" expressions. With such an enviable collection of vineyards its no surprise that only estate fruit is used in their wines.
Now under Stefano, the winemaking strives for the classical and balanced, showing excellent terroir authenticity but also offering a unique level of approachability: separate vinification by parcel, fermentation in open-top wooden vats, large and medium oak barrels employed for ageing of the Baroli and Barbaresco wines, with further bottle maturation for one year before release.
